How to Choose the Perfect Wedding Invitations

After setting the wedding date and tentative location, the next important decision is choosing your wedding invitations.  With a such a wide variety of wedding invitation  styles and price ranges, this decision can sometimes be overwhelming.  Here are a few ideas to help you choose the perfect wedding invitation for your big day.

How many people to invite. You may not have specific numbers yet, but you should be able to set a number range of guests you expect to invite, such as fewer than 100 or between 200 to 300.  The  bride and groom each may have different ideas of how they picture their wedding day so it is very important to communicate your wishes and ideas regarding a large  wedding (with many guests) or small wedding (family and a few close friends).  With this guest estimate in mind, you will be able to decide on a budget for your wedding  invitations.

Budget. When estimating the cost of wedding invitations, setting aside about 3% of your total wedding budget would be an adequate amount.  This means if you have budgeted  $20,000 for your wedding, you are able to spend up to $600 for your wedding invitations.  Costs for wedding invitations can range anywhere from $1,000 and up per 100  invitations on the high end or as little as $70 per 100 invitations on the low end.

Plan ahead, order early. It’s good to start early when choosing wedding invitations.  You and your partner will need time to research and discuss the various choices available for your invitations.  If  you look early enough, you may even have time to request samples from various companies.  Ordering your wedding invitations  at least 6 months in advance will give you a  cushion of time to allow for printing of the invitations and correction of any errors that may occur in printing.  You also need to account for the time it takes to assemble your  invitations and mailing them out to give sufficient time for a response.  Plan on ordering 20 to 25 extra invitations in case they are needed because of mistakes in addressing  the invitations or if you find you need to add additional guests to the list.

Wedding invitation types. There are three or four different types of stationery that are popular with most couples choosing wedding invitations.  Prices for these various types of stationery vary widely  because of the way the invitations are made.  The following are some common types of stationery used for wedding invitations:

Thermography.  This type of wedding invitation is relatively inexpensive, popular and easy to find.  This type of invitation can be used for a casual wedding.  Thermography  creates the illusion of raised text through a printing process that heats the ink and resin chemical in a combination that causes the printed text to appear raised while the  paper beneath it looks smooth.  Because of the heating process involved in creating this type of invitation, the proper combination of paper and ink must be used.

Offset Printing.  This type of wedding invitation uses normal, everyday print.  Although the print may seem common, this type of invitation will still announce your wedding  in an elegant manner.

Engraved.  This type of wedding invitation is usually very expensive and reserved for very formal weddings.  Engraved invitations are usually used to annouce a very  traditional style of wedding.  This type of invitation is costly because an engraver must first carve the image or message into a copper plate, ink the plate, and then push the  plate down onto the paper.  This creates the raised lettering on the paper.  Because of all the steps needed to create this type of wedding invitation, this method is time  consuming and you will need to wait weeks for your invitations to be ready.

Embossed.  Embossed invitations are very classy but also very expensive.  Similar to engraved invitations, the raised print on this type of wedding invitation looks  impressive but may be hard on your budget because of the technique used to create this type of invitation.

Calligraphy.  This handcrafted invitation is elegant and refined but needs to be done by a skilled calligrapher who may be difficult to find.  You can also look for a printer who  creates the look of calligraphy on printed invitations.  Obviously, the printed calligraphy is more affordable than the hand-written calligraphy but may not be as elegant as  the hand-written one.

Once you have decided on your wedding invitations, make sure you order all the wedding stationery you will need, such as response cards and thank you cards, together for  uniformity.

Choosing your wedding invitations should be an exciting and fun task in preparation for your big day.  Keep in mind some of the ideas discussed above and choosing your  invitations will be a bit easier.

Flowers Can Make Your Parties Better Than Paris Hilton’s

You don’t have to famous party girl Paris Hilton or have her money to make your parties a memorable event. Simple and creative use of flowers will keep your guests talking about your party and looking forward to the next one for weeks to come.
Flowers can be an integral part of the decorations and help set the mood for your party -from fun and frisky to elegant and sophisticated. And, you don’t have to be a party planning expert to use flowers effectively; all you have to do is enlist the help of your favorite professional florist who will be able to help you create the look and feel you want with flowers in the right colors and styles. Your florist can even help you use flowers in some very surprising and unique ways no matter what type of party you’re throwing.
Backyard Barbecue
Backyard barbecues are friendly, relaxed events with an informal setting and comfortable clothing. Of course, they’re also held during the summer when it’s hot! You’ll want to ask your florist which flowers will last the best throughout the event and stay looking fresh for hours. Some suggestions are daisies, marigolds, lilies, asters, and sunflowers.
For simple, fun centerpieces, try placing big bunches of daisies in canning jars. They’ll look great in the center of the traditional checkered tablecloth. Or, you could have your florist use bottles or baskets as containers for floral arrangements. For and even prettier table, tie raffia bows around your napkins and silverware and slip a flower through the bow.
Patio or Garden Party
Your patio or garden party might be a sophisticated affair, or it could be informal, but since it’s an outdoor party, you’ll want to focus on the beauty of the surroundings. Flowers can help you enhance that beauty. Try using clay pots filled with flowering plants or green plants strung with twinkling white lights. Or, fill clay pots with topiary designs. Set your tables with small vases containing several different types of flowers or crystal bowls with low arrangements surrounded by scattered petals. Place a flower on the napkin of each table setting.
Mexican Fiesta
A spicy Mexican Fiesta needs bright, feisty flowers. The bolder the colors the better! Gerbera daisies are an excellent choice since they’re a casual flower available in a wide variety of bright colors. Try placing them in Mexican “bubble” glass or painted pottery. You can even float a few blossoms in your Sangria bowl or pierce small blossoms with a toothpick to decorate your Margaritas. For a festive floral arrangement, take empty piñatas with openings cut into the top to your florist. Ask them to create flower arrangements using the piñatas as containers. Hang the finished arrangements around your party space.
These are just a few ideas you can use to make your parties the talk of the neighborhood. Your florist can help you find creative ways to use flowers for any party theme or setting you can think of. Who knows, with the right mix of fun and flowers, you might start getting calls from Hollywood A-listers like Paris Hilton begging to be invited to your events!

FOOD INFORMATION, TIPS, During Storms.

Parts of USA and Canada have been hit with disaster, from fires in California to floods in British Columbia, snow and ice storms in eastern USA and Canada. Many will be dealing without power, flood houses.  Here is information to help you get through some of the problems.

NOTE: To prepare for a disaster go to my archives on my website, and read my article “Ring Of Fire”.The refrigerator will keep food safely cold for about 4 hours if it is unopened. A full freezer will hold the temperature for approximately 48 hours (24 hours if it is half full) and the door remains closed.

Discard refrigerated perishable food such as meat, poultry, fish, soft cheeses,

Food may be safely refrozen if it still contains ice crystals or is at 40°F or below when checked with a food thermometer.

Never taste a food to determine its safety!

Obtain dry or block ice to keep your refrigerator and freezer as cold as possible if the power is going to be out for a prolonged period of time. Fifty pounds of dry ice should hold an 18-cubic-foot full freezer for 2 days.

If the power has been out for several days, check the temperature of the freezer with an appliance thermometer. If the appliance thermometer reads 40°F or below, the food is safe to refreeze.

If a thermometer has not been kept in the freezer, check each package of food to determine its safety. If the food still contains ice crystals, the food is safe.

Discard any food that is not in a waterproof container if there is any chance that it has come into contact with flood water. Discard wooden cutting boards, plastic utensils, baby bottle nipples and pacifiers.

Thoroughly wash all metal pans, ceramic dishes and utensils that came in contact with flood water with hot soapy water and sanitize by boiling them in clean water or by immersing them for 15 minutes in a solution of 1 tablespoon of unscented, liquid chlorine bleach per gallon of drinking water.

SANITIZE CUTTING BOARDS

An effective way to sanitize cutting boards and other kitchen surfaces, is with a diluted bleach and water solution — just 1 tablespoon unscented liquid chlorine bleach (not more) to 1 gallon of water.

To clean your cutting board, first wash it with hot water and soap. After rinsing it off with clean water, sanitize by letting the diluted chlorine bleach solution stand on the cutting board surface for about a minute. Rinse and blot dry with clean paper towels. It is important to clean and sanitize – just because a surface looks clean, does not mean it is free of disease-causing bacteria!

RESPONSIBLE DRINKING, BAR MIXESIf you have teenagers, or in fact any adult, impress on themthe risks of driving while intoxicated.  Statistics demonstratemany fatal road accidents are caused by drunk drivers. If you’re having a party, provide food with drinks. Offer non-alcoholic substitutes such as fruit, soft drinks.2 drinks taken within an hour by a person 100 pounds produces a075 reading.  One drink is equal to about 1.5 oz. of whisky or 2bottles of beer. The rate of elimination for each hour after drinking has stopped is 015.  A 200 pound person, after 1 drink produces a reading of .019, so you can see there is a big differencedue to weight. As a host it is your duty to make sure no one leaves your party impaired.  Have some one drive them home.CRANBERRY COOLER16 ounces cranberry juice8 ounce vodka2 ounces lime juice8 ounces water4 teaspoons bar sugarStir all ingredients thoroughly in a punch bowl. Drink Yourself Skinny

Many people watch what they eat, but they often forget to watch what they drink.  Drinking the wrong kinds of beverages can cause you to gain weight.  On the other hand, eliminating these drinks in favor of healthier alternative can help you lose weight and flatten your stomach.

One of the best ways to start losing weight is by eliminating soda from your diet.  Soda is filled with empty calories and high amounts of sugar.  About seven percent of the average American’s daily calorie intake is comprised of soft drinks.  Getting rid of the soda in your house can save you about one and one half pounds per month.

Fruit juices should also be avoided.  Although they are filled with vitamins and nutrients, they are also high in sugar, which can become converted into added calories.  Many juice drinks sold in the grocery store are juice blends that contain mostly water or corn syrup.  It is always better to eat whole fruits rather than to drink fruit juices.

In place of soft drinks and juice, try adding more water to your diet.  Experts recommend drinking at least eight glasses of water each day in order to keep the body properly hydrated.  Water also helps to flush out toxins from your body.  Several studies have shown that drinking more water can assist with weight lost.  For example, one study found that drinking more than one liter of water per day was linked with losing an extra five pounds in a year.

Yogurt smoothies can be a great addition to your beverage lineup.  Smoothies made of dairy, fruit, and ice only are good for you and help you to stay fuller for longer.  A smoothie makes a great breakfast or snack but should not be used as an addition to a meal, since they can contain a lot of calories.

Following these simple tips can help you lose weight by watching what you drink.

Top Ten Styles of Wedding Invitations

There are many different ideas when it comes to wedding invitations, so it is important to look at the style that fits best, before you decide which invitations to send out. Wedding invitations are an important part of the wedding planning process because it provides your guests with valuable information about the ceremony. These ten commonly used invitation styles can help you find the best choice for your wedding.TraditionalThe traditional themed wedding invitation is making a comeback because of its simplicity, which many couples like to have. The traditional wedding invitation is a rectangular shape made from one sheet. This style generally has printing on the front of the invitation in a scripted font without any other decorations or designs. Although it is very simple and plain to look at, the couples who choose it do so for its simplicity. This is also a style typically used with formal weddings. ContemporaryThe contemporary wedding invitation is something that is drastically different from the traditional style. It is a wedding invitation that can be in any shape and in any size, and the couples usually choose it because they can customize it to their own needs and wants. This style is perfect for destination weddings. The couple may also choose to incorporate a picture on the invitation. There are many excellent choices available when choosing a modern themed wedding invitation. One FoldInvitations that fold in half are also very common today. On the front of the invite, there is usually a quote or lyrics from a song, or even a picture. When the invite is unfolded, the information important information about the wedding can be found. These can be opened sideways, like a traditional greeting card, or it can be opened top to bottom. Either way, many couples are choosing to use them. Two FoldTwo fold wedding invitations were not used in the past because they take up a lot of room and can be heavy and expensive to buy. However, many couples have started to use them, especially if they can print the invitations all by themselves. These are designs that have a lot more information than the traditional invitations, because the have more room. The first fold usually has information about the couple, and the middle fold usually has information about the wedding itself. ReligiousFor very religious weddings, designs like crosses and religious symbols are becoming very important to use on wedding invitations. You can find many different design elements that include religious items or symbols, and if this is something that is very important to you and your spouse-to-be, it is important to use a wedding invitation that matches your needs. CulturalMany people are putting cultural ideas or decorations onto their wedding invitations because they want to celebrate the mixture of two different cultures in their wedding. These can include using Celtic knots as decoration, or even using traditional colors and designs of the Native Americans. Either way, using cultural designs on wedding invitations is becoming quite popular. Theme OrientedA big idea when it comes to wedding invitations is to incorporate the theme into the actual invitation itself. This can mean fall leaves on an invitation, or invitations in the shape of snowflakes for a winter wedding. It can also mean a beach scene on the wedding invitation to indicate that the wedding takes place on the beach. TransparentA newer addition to wedding invitations are invitations that have transparent sheets added to them. A wedding invite might have a photograph underneath a semi-transparent sheet of film over the top of it. This adds depth to the wedding invitation and makes it much more fancy and interesting to look at. It can be an idea for a formal or informal wedding. IllustratedAnother idea that is hitting the market when it comes to wedding invitations is the illustrated invitations. These have either a picture of the couple on the invitation, or a drawing of them or something else on the invite. Because illustrations were not normally used for wedding invitations, the illustrations on these types of invitations can be very interesting and can make for a completely different theme when it comes to wedding invites in general. Non-ConventionalThere are several different non-conventional wedding invitations that are out there on the market today, and couples who seek to be completely different usually do these. Often, they are used for destination weddings, as they often incorporate the overall theme. They can be airline tickets that fit into a pocket, messages in a bottle, or even cloth and paper leaves with the wedding information written on them. Non-conventional wedding invitations are usually done by hand or they are purchased one at a time, so they can be quite expensive.

Hosting a Party ? Make Sure You Have the Right Insurance

Summer is on its way and when the sun decides to shine nothing beats a good garden party. Getting the barbeque out of the garage, stocking up on food and drinks and buying games for the kids are all part of a British summer.  However if you are thinking of hosting a party in your home or garden there are a few things you need to consider. When people are invited to your home in you are required by law to provide a basic duty of care to all guests. If accidents occur and the hosts can be proved to have been negligent a claim for compensation could be made. Recently a young boy attended a party where the hosts had hired a bouncy castle for the event. Whilst playing on the bouncy castle the young boy was accidently struck in the head by an older boy which resulted in severe brain injuries. The young boy’s parents made a claim for compensation and were awarded one million pounds as the party hosts were deemed to have failed in adequately supervising the bouncy castle. The case may open up the possibility of other claims for accidents to children whilst in the care of others. The main point however is that in this case a duty of care was not provided and negligence on the part of the hosts could be proved. The Child Accident Prevention Trust state that in only a few cases have people been successfully sued when an accident has occurred caused by children playing.  Children get bumps and scrapes all the time, so unless it can be proven that negligence has occurred, it is not the fact that a child is hurt that is the basis for the compensation claim. It is important to clarify that negligence does not automatically result in liability. For a claim for compensation to be made the victim must prove that those who were negligent owed them a duty of care, such as having invited them as a visitor into their own home.  If a claim is made under these circumstances sometimes home insurance will cover it, although it is important to check as insurers all offer different cover for different things in their policies. Buildings cover for example may pay out if a part of the exterior of the house became loose and hurt someone; such as roof tile falling and onto someone can causing injury, or a piece of the window frame coming loose and scraping someone. Household contents cover will often cover accidents that occur in the home or private garden; so accidents arising from a party may be covered by home insurance. Personal liability cover is often included in home insurance and protects against accidents such as slips, trips and other incidents. These incidents however are not common and most people host wonderful parties without a hitch. However it is important to check with your insurance provider what you are covered for and ensure that you take responsibility for the safety of your guests when you invite them to your home.

Important Information for Buying Wedding Invitations

There are some important details to become familiar with when choosing wedding invitations. If you are shopping for wedding invitations, it is easy to get confused by all the terminology, etiquette and available styles. Other pieces of a wedding invitation such as Save the Date cards, table cards and place cards need to be decided on as well. Both the amount of information and the presentation of the information also need to be nailed down. Considering all of the choices to be made, choosing wedding invitations can be confusing and stressful as well.

Just to make this process a bit easier, take a look at the following checklist of important information you need to know for buying wedding invitations:

Wedding invitations are expensive, so you certainly do not want to order too many. On the other hand, you do not want to run out and have to re-order, which will end up costing you more money in setup fees and shipping. Before you order your wedding invitations, sit down with your guest list and count up how many invitations you will need to send out. A few guidelines:

- a husband and wife get one invitation

- a couple living together get one invitation

- adult roommates each get their own invitation

- adult children living with parents should each get their own invitation

- children under the age of 18 can be included on their parents invitation

- a couple who don’t live together each get their own invitation

Wedding invitations have several pieces that can all be bought as one or bought a la carte. In addition, there are other pieces of wedding stationery that you may or may not want to purchase. The most commonly used wedding stationery includes:

- Wedding invitation

- Inner envelope

- Outer envelope

- Response Card and Envelope

- Reception Card if the reception is held somewhere other than the ceremony

- Save the Date cards for out of town guests or those that need a lot of advance notice

- Table Cards are printed with a table number for each table

- Place Cards tell your guests where they are seated

- Programs

- Menu Cards

- Thank You Cards

Obviously, you do not need to order every single one of these, but it is helpful to know what they each are.

Contemporary wedding invitations are much freer in terms of the words that are printed on the invitation. If you want to adhere to the most traditional and formal wedding invitation, you can find tutorials and templates online to help you word your invitations properly.

More importantly, though, you will need to supply the wording that you want printed on your invitation when you order them, so you need to know what you are going to have printed on the invitation before you buy them.

Invitations should be sent out about 6 to 8 weeks before your wedding date to give people time to plan. Your order will typically take about 4 to 6 weeks to arrive so you should order your wedding invitation at least 12 weeks before your wedding so you have time to address them and get them sent out in time.

Many couples plan to spend about 2% of your wedding budget on their wedding invitations, including postage. It is helpful to have an idea of your price range for wedding invitations before you start looking so that you can choose invitations in your budget range.

It’s helpful to know some of the terminology used in printing when you are looking at wedding invitations. This is far from an exhaustive wedding invitation glossary, but it will help you get started.

Border – a design around the edge of the invitation. It may be printed or embossed

Deckle Edge – an irregular edge that looks almost torn like homemade paper

Die-cut – paper that is cut into a distinctive shape or outline

Ecru – an off-white neutral color that is commonly used for formal stationery

Embossing – a printing technique that creates a raised surface

Envelope Liners – inner envelopes or linings for the inside of the outer invitation envelope

Flat Cards or Panel Cards – a single, unfolded card used as an invitation

If you want to coordinate your wedding invitations with your wedding colors, you will need to know what those colors are. Most traditional and formal wedding invitations don’t include color, but it can be an important consideration for contemporary wedding invitations.

Dinner Blessings

The housewife invited 2 couple and their children for dinner one night. As they get ready to eat, the housewife asks her son, “Would you like to say blessings”?

“I don’t know what to say”, the boy replies. “Just say what you hear what your mother says”, replied the mother.

The boy bowed his head and said, “Lord, why on earth did I invite two 2 couples and their kids for dinner”?

Harmful Chemistry That Are Used In The Home. * Ammonia is poisonous, extremely irritating to respiratory passages, and can burn the skin on contact. * Alkyl phenol ethoxylates (Apes) – common in detergents and disinfectants, are suspected hormone disruptor’s. * Triclosan, often found in antibacterial soaps, lotions, and gels, may be contributing to the rise of antibiotic-    resistant germs. * Butyl cellosolve (aka butyl glycol, ethylene glycol monobutyl) is poisonous if swallowed. * Chlorine bleach irritates the lungs, eyes, and is extremely damaging to aquatic life. * Phthalates, frequently found in fragrances, contains chemicals linked to asthma in children, and also may cause reproductive abnormalities. * Phosphates are often found in detergents and are used to soften the water, thus making the detergent more effective. * Sodium hydroxide is found in drain, metal and oven cleaners. Extremely irritating to eyes and lungs, this chemical can burn those tissues on contact. * Sodium lauryl sulphate creates the suds we love to see when cleaning, but can cause dermatitis with prolonged contact with the skin.

Blocked Drains?

Instead of using caustic products (be green and save money) for clearing blocked drains, throw a cup of baking soda down the drain followed by a few jugs of water.

FOOD INFORMATION

USE FOOD THERMOMETER

Don’t rely on looks alone. Bacteria can spread during ground meat.  Always use a food thermometer and cook at 160 degrees Fahrenheit when cooking your hamburgers.

BAR MIXES

RESPONSIBLE DRINKING If you have teenagers, or in fact any adult, impress on them the risks of driving while intoxicated. Statistics demonstrate many fatal road accidents are caused by drunk drivers. If you’re having a party, provide food with drinks. Offer non-alcoholic substitutes such as fruit, soft drinks. 2 drinks taken within an hour by a person 100 pounds produces a 075 reading. One drink is equal to about 1.5 oz. of whisky or 2 bottles of beer. The rate of elimination for each hour after drinking has stopped is 015. A 200-pound person, after 1 drink produces a reading of .019, so you can see there is a big difference due to weight.

For good results measure water and coffee.
